how to make buttercream icing

    Just followed your step of making buttercream but i failed. My buttercream is not smooth and a bit coarse, it is also quite oily and the shape cannot hold. May i know why?

    -The butter was melted in room temperature, still in solid type but not hard at all.
    -I use the middle speed for mixing the icing and the butter and i mixed it for 5-7 mins.
    -I didn't add any liquid, as I afraid it will be too soft.

    Would you please give me some advice? Thank you very much.
